The Dordogne River, famous for its picturesque landscapes, offers a unique adventure for outdoor enthusiasts. For a memorable getaway, immerse yourself in the world of canoe bivouac along this magnificent river. Here is our little guide to help you plan an unforgettable experience.

1 – Choose the right route

Before launching your canoe, plan your itinerary based on the length of your stay. Opt for sections suitable for beginners or more adventurous sections such as between Argentat and Beaulieu in level 2 class which still remains accessible to beginners in canoeing. We can help you choose your route by email or telephone.

2 – Equip your canoe for bivouac

Make sure you have everything you need for your bivouac and your stay. We provide you with a 55L waterproof container per person for your stay. If you're loaded, a good waterproof bag is essential to keep your belongings dry. Ideally, bring lightweight sleeping bags, compact tents and portable stoves for cozy evenings around the fire. No need to load up on living expenses at the start of your stay, our villages in the Dordogne Valley along the river will have everything you need.

3 – Find the ideal camping spots

The Dordogne is full of ideal places for riverside camping. Look for secluded beaches, peaceful islands and flat shores to set up camp. In order to preserve everyone's peace and quiet, we do not give specific points but let you find your corner of paradise.

Remember to respect the environment and leave the place as clean as you found it.

4 – Prepare tasty meals outdoors

Canoe bivouac offers the opportunity to concoct delicious meals in the heart of nature. Prepare simple, easy-to-cook ingredients like skewers, grilled vegetables and marshmallows for dessert. Moments spent around the fire with friends and loved ones will be unforgettable.

5 – Immerse yourself in nature

Let yourself be immersed in natural beauty. Discover how to enjoy every moment, disconnect, and connect with nature to observe wildlife, admire the stars, and enjoy the tranquility of the river. In the Dordogne Valley, you are in the heart of a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve but also the Tringle Noir du Quercy for stargazing.

  • It is prohibited to bivouac on private land except with the agreement of the owners.
